About the BCI
The Beverage Council of Ireland (BCI), founded in 1928, represents the interests of the manufacturers and distributors of soft drinks, bottled water and fruit juice in Ireland. Its member companies, both multinational and indigenous, represent the entire supply chain from raw materials to finished products.
The non-alcoholic beverage sector is a major employer and a significant source of business for other Irish producers, sub-suppliers and service businesses. The industry employs 3,655 people directly and supports an estimated 6,700 full-time equivalent jobs across the Irish economy, when direct as well as indirect employment is taken into account. Non-alcoholic beverages (NABs) make a significant contribution to Irish exports, an economic sector valued as a key driver to restoring employment and growth in Ireland.
Based on the latest available full-year data from the CSO, the overall value of exports of NABs reached €132.9 million during 2010. Soft drinks other than waters and fruit juices accounted for €82.5 million or 62% of the value of exports in 2010. Purchases of Irish goods and services by BCI member companies were in excess of €106m in 2010. The BCI companies contributed €85.9m in income tax, VAT and corporation tax in 2010 and invested €34.5m in capital expenditure in 2010
